panel predicts earthquake of 9.0 magnitude, mega-earthquake and tsunami waves over
30-meter high
Japan Tsunami Warning Latest:
According
to the warning by a group of experts including scientists, tsunami waves as
high as 30 meters’ could be triggered in northern Japan if an earthquake of
magnitude 9 occurs along the sea trenches of the pacific coast as it has always happened
several times in the past 6,000 years. The last one occurred in the 17th century.
A Japanese government
panel has warned that a tsunami as high as 30 meters’ could crash in on Hokkaido if an earthquake of magnitude 9 occurs. According to the report, waves nearly 90 feet high could reach
the town of Erimo .
Earlier on Saturday (April 18) a strong earthquake shook a
Japanese island chain in the Pacific Ocean south of Tokyo but passed off
without damage as it occurred in the Pacific Ocean west of the Ogasawara
island chain, at a location about 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) south of Tokyo,
as per the Japan Meteorological Agency. According to local reports,
around 1,000 tanks of wastewater are stored in the compound of the dilapidated
Fukushima plant.
