There is no doubt that John Cena has played an important role in taking WWE to the heights. John Cena has created such records in WWE, which would be very difficult for any wrestler to break. This American wrestler has been associated with WWE for more than 15 years. During this time John Cena has won the WWE World Championship 16 times. It is the only wrestler to do so. Ric Flair has also won 16 titles, but not all of them are WWE titles.
On his birthday, we take a look at his top 3 bouts which you can watch once again today:
John Cena vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (Judgement Day 2005)
The Cenation leader took on John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) back in WrestleMania 21 where he went to clinch his maiden WWE Championship. The feud which followed on Judgement Day was in many ways the perfect way to conclude their epic rivalry. It was also Cena’s bloodiest fight in many years to come.
Both fighters were wriggling around with blood splattered all over the place. Eventually, JBL said ‘I quit’ as Cena was all set to attack him with an exhaust pipe and thus, retained his WWE Championship.
John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar (Extreme Rules 2012)
Cena lost to the Rock at WrestleMania 28 and then went on to call him again on RAW to extend his congratulations. However, Brock Lesnar emerged from the background and amidst the rapturous ovation proceeded to give an F-5 to Cena. A match was set up for Extreme Rules.
It was yet another bloody affair, as Lesnar made Cena bleed by pounding him with his elbow. The balance of the match began to shift when Lesnar performed German Suplex on him one after the other. Despite bleeding for a majority of the match, Cena bagged the match when he attacked Lesnar with a metal chain and then performed an Attitude Adjustment onto the steel step.
John Cena vs. AJ Styles (Royal Rumble 2017)
Two iconic wrestlers, and when they faced off in the 2017 Royal Rumble, it was perhaps the best feud. This became a must watch encounter as there were quiet whispers about his wrestling abilities match where both Cena and Styles were at their brutal best and also mixed it with their technical nous. After a vintage clash, Cena was the winner and in the process, bagged WWE Championship for a record-tying sixteenth time.
